Our research group deals with the neurobiological basis of affective behavior and social interactions. The focus lies on topics such as empathy and aggression and the influence of hormones.
Musicians' Health
Psychology encounters music-making in our research group. In particular, the psychological processes involved in stage fright and performance anxiety are the subject of research. In addition to that, the working group deals with the neuronal plasticity of musicians.
Babylab
In our projects, we want to find out more about how babies and young children perceive and discover the world around them. We are particularly interested in social and emotional development.
MR Imaging
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Group is responsible for the operation of the MRI Core Facility at the CBBM and supports all working groups at the CBBM that use MR imaging for their research.
Medical Psychologie
The central task of our teaching department is to ensure that future doctors receive a solid education in the intersections between psychology and medicine. A particular focus of our teaching area is communication between doctor and patient.
Welcome to the website of the new Institute of Medical Psychology
The Institute of Medical Psychology was re-established in 2024. It is part of the Department of Medicine at the University of Lübeck and the University Hospital, Lübeck Campus. Through the Professorship for Musicians' Health (Prof. Dr. Daniel Scholz), the Institute also builds a bridge to the University of Music. The Institute is located in the Center of Brain, Behavior and Metabolism (CBBM).
The research groups at the institute focus on the (neuro)biological foundations of human behavior and experience. It focuses on topics such as emotion perception and its development, empathy, the influence of hormones on affective behavior and the effects of stress on musicians.
In teaching, the Institute represents the subject of Medical Psychology in the Human Medicine degree course and the subjects of General Psychology, Social Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience in the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Psychology. Next to that, we offer elective subjects on musicians' health.
